Bringing 'The Buffalo' Back to Buffalo
Built in 1923 Tug Buffalo started her life powered by a steam engine. For the next 25-30 years she worked as a maintenance tug on the NY Canal System and was then placed into private service in the early 1950s. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to sell the boat, then owner, Morris Reals donated the tug to the Canal Corporation for $1.00. Soon after in 2005 the boat switched hands again, being sold to the Town of Waterford. Auctioned off in December of 2017, the then 94 year old boat was sold to Mark, Jonathan and Andrew Palmer. Today Tug Buffalo is powered by a 1931 Cooper-Bessemer diesel engine and is starting its historic journey back to Buffalo! Bringing 'The Buffalo' back to Buffalo.
